How to cook frozen fish sticks in air fryer

If you want to know how to cook frozen fish sticks in air fryer, this post will take you through the step-by-step process of cooking frozen fish sticks in the air fryer.

Fish sticks are a quick and easy appetizer or snack and do not take much time to cook in the air fryer.

Not only that, these are kid-friendly, and you can make them within a few minutes in the air fryer while getting that deep-fried crispy crust on the top.

By choosing to make fish sticks in an air fryer, you can enjoy a healthier and more convenient cooking method that preserves the crispy texture while reducing the use of oil.

Ingredients:

– Frozen fish sticks

– Spray of oil (completely optional)- You can spray oil on the fish sticks to get a crisper texture. I didn’t use oil while making these fish sticks myself, but you can do so to get a more crispier texture on the fish sticks.

How to cook frozen fish sticks in air fryer?

1. Prepare Air Fryer: Line the air fryer basket with perforated parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking. Make sure not to start the air fryer or preheat the air fryer with just the parchment paper inside, as that can cause the parchment paper to come in contact with the heating element and burn off.

2. Arrange Fish Sticks: Lay the frozen fish sticks in a single layer on the parchment paper in the air fryer basket. Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket and have an even layer of fish sticks with enough space between them. This will make sure that the air circulates evenly around the fish sticks.

3. Air Fry at 200°C (390°F): Set the air fryer temperature at 200°C (390°F) and cook the fish sticks for 8-10 minutes. You have to flip the fish sticks midway so that they cook evenly on both sides. So make sure to flip them at the 4 or 5-minute mark.

4. Is Turning Required: Since these fish sticks are breaded, you must flip them halfway through cooking to give them that fried effect.

5. Check for Crispiness: Check the fish sticks for crispiness. The exterior should be golden brown and crunchy.

How long to cook frozen fish sticks in air fryer?

You do not need to cook the fish sticks longer than 10-12 minutes. How long it takes to cook fish sticks in an air fryer also depends on what temperature you plan to cook them.

The fish sticks will take longer to cook if you go for a lower temperature. I recommend a temperature of 180-200°C to cook fish sticks, and I cooked them for 10 minutes at 200°C.

However, this time can vary depending on the air fryer you use, so keep that in mind.

Tips on cooking Frozen Fish Sticks in Air Fryer

1. Optional Oil: Oil is often unnecessary when air frying fish sticks, as they can crisp up nicely without it. However, if desired, you can lightly spray or brush them with oil for added crispiness.

2. Parchment Liner: Use a perforated parchment liner to prevent food from sticking and make cleaning easier. This also helps in keeping the air fryer clean throughout the cooking process.

3. No Need to Thaw: You can cook frozen fish sticks directly in the air fryer without thawing. This not only saves time but also makes them extra crispy when cooked. The frozen state helps to retain its structure and results in a crispy exterior and juicy interior.

4. Flipping for Even Cooking: Flip the fish sticks halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crispiness. This promotes even cooking on both sides, achieving a golden-brown finish.

How to store leftover Fish sticks

To store leftover fish sticks, allow them to cool completely to room temperature, preventing condensation and fogginess.

Once cooled, place the fish sticks in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag and promptly refrigerate them.

Consider separating layers with parchment paper or aluminum foil for larger quantities to prevent sticking.

Label the container with the date of storage and aim to consume the leftovers within 1-2 days for optimal quality.
