How to cook Chicken Sausage in Air Fryer?- Easy guide

If you have never made chicken sausage in an air fryer, then you are missing out. This easy guide on how to cook chicken sausage in air fryer will take you along some do’s and don’ts on cooking sausages.

Every time I cook sausage in an air fryer, it comes out perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

This has made the air fryer my favorite way to cook sausages, and it does it perfectly every single time!

You do not need to turn them around much like when cooking them in a pan, making it a more hands-free cooking experience.

Also, with no oil, I get a nice, thin, crispy layer outside the sausages. Cooking chicken sausages this way in the air fryer is one of my favorite ways to cook sausages.

Ingredients

1. 4 Chicken Sausages- Your choice of sausages (e.g., bratwurst, Italian sausage, chicken sausage)

2. Cooking oil spray (optional)

How to cook Chicken Sausage in Air Fryer?

1. Arrange the Sausages: I first line the air fryer basket with perforated parchment paper, then place the sausages, ensuring they are not touching or overlapping for even cooking.

It is optional, but you can lightly spray the sausages with cooking oil for added crispiness.

No need to thaw the sausage.

I didn’t do so for this recipe, but I recommend trying it with oil, which helps retain moisture.

2. Air Fry at 200°C (392°F) for 6 Minutes: Cook the sausages for the first 6 minutes at 200°C (392°F). This initial cooking time helps start the browning process. You would see the outsides of the sausage already crisping up.

3. Flip the Sausages: After the first 6 minutes, carefully flip the sausages using tongs. This will help in cooking the sausages evenly on both sides.

4. Air Fry for Another 4-6 Minutes: Continue cooking the sausages for another 4-6 minutes at the same temperature. The total cooking time should now be 10-12 minutes.

5. Check for Doneness: Check the internal temperature of the sausages using a meat thermometer. It should reach a safe internal temperature (varies by type, typically around 74°C or 165°F for pork and chicken sausages). If the outside is all brown and crispy, then it is ready to be eaten.

6. Serve: Remove them from the air fryer once the sausages are cooked and have a nice golden brown exterior.

What temperature do you cook air fryer sausage?

The temperature at which you cook air fryer sausages can vary based on many factors, like the sausage type, air fryer model, and the thickness of the sausage.

Cooking sausages at a lower temperature can produce a juicier interior while still achieving a crispy exterior. Generally, temperatures ranging from 175°C to 200°C (about 350°F to 392°F) are ideal for air frying a sausage, and I would recommend you stay within this temperature range.

The timings can vary from 12- 18 minutes depending on the temperature at which you cook the sausage and the air fryer wattage.

Are sausages better in oven or air fryer?

Choosing which is a better option to cook sausages is a personal choice. However, there are a few factors that one should consider.

1. Cooking capacity- Considering the cooking capacity, the oven can cook way more sausages at once, so if you prefer quantity, go for the oven.

2. Time- If you want to get your sausages done quickly, go with the air fryer as it cooks them in half the oven time.

3. Texture- This factor greatly influences choosing an oven or air fryer to cook sausages. Some might favor the juiciness of oven-cooked sausages. In contrast, others appreciate an air fryer’s quick and crispy outcomes.

How long does it take to cook sausage in air fryer?

Sausages are done within 12-18 minutes, depending on the type of sausage, temperature, and the air fryer you use.

If yu cook the sausages at 200°C then you will be done within 12 minutes. However, I suggest you keep an eye on the sausages and cook them for a bit longer if you want the outside to be a bit crisper.

If you are looking at a temperature lower than 200°C, you might want to add a few more minutes of cooking time.

Both frozen and raw sausages have the same cooking time. But if you think you need a bit longer, then go ahead and cook it for a few more minutes.

Notes

1. You can spray some cooking oil on top of the sausages to get a nice crispy texture outside without the sausage drying out.
2. I never poke holes while cooking sausages in an air fryer as I do not want the insides to dry out, and the air fryer anyway cooks the sausage evenly, so it is unnecessary.
3. Depending on the type of meat is used to make the sausage, the cooking times might differ, so be aware of that.
