How to make Frozen Chicken Wings in Air Fryer

You are missing out if you have never had air fryer frozen chicken wings! Cooking frozen chicken wings in air fryer is easy and the perfect game day snack with some chilled drinks.

The fact that the air fryer gives you the crispiest chicken wings with little to no oil is amazing. You are going to be shocked at how good the results are!

Make this recipe and thank me later because making air fryer chicken wings is easier than deep frying or any other cooking method.

The wings get way crisper than they would if you bake them in an oven in a fraction of the time, so yes, this is hands down my favorite way to cook chicken wings.

Ingredients:

-Frozen chicken wings

– Olive oil spray

-Salt and pepper (optional)

-Your favorite wing sauce or seasoning (optional)

How to make Air fryer Frozen Chicken Wings

1. Prepare the Air Fryer Basket: Line the air fryer basket with a parchment liner. This makes cleanup easier and prevents the sticking of food and grease.

2. Arrange the Frozen Wings: Place the frozen chicken wings in a single layer on the parchment-lined air fryer basket. Ensure they are not overlapping for even cooking.

3. Spray with Olive Oil: Lightly spray the frozen wings with olive oil using an olive oil spray. This helps in achieving a golden-brown and crispy exterior. Toss them gently to coat evenly.

4. Season with Salt and Pepper (Optional): Sprinkle salt and pepper over the wings to taste(if needed). Adjust the seasoning based on your preference. If you are coating it in buffalo, BBQ sauce, or any other sauce later, then you can skip this step as the seasoning from the sauces would take over.

5. Air Fry: Cook the frozen chicken wings in air fryer at 180°C (or 360°F) for 12-15 minutes. Flip the chicken wings halfway through the cooking time for even crispiness.

Flip it half way through cooking

-Check for Doneness: Check the chicken wings for doneness. They should have a golden-brown and crispy exterior.

Cook for another 6-7 minutes after flipping

-Optional: Toss in Wing Sauce or Seasoning: If you like, toss the cooked wings in your favorite wing sauce or seasoning for added flavor. This is an optional step; you can skip it if you like plain wings.

– Serve and Enjoy: Take out the chicken wings from the air fryer and let them rest for a minute before serving. Enjoy your crispy and flavorful air-fried frozen chicken wings.

How to Reheat Chicken wings in an air fryer?

1. Reheat: Place the leftover chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Now, Set the air fryer to around 180°C (356°F) or your preferred temperature. Cook the wings for about 5 minutes.

Keep an eye on them and check periodically to avoid overcooking. Flip the wings halfway through to ensure the wings are cooked evenly on both sides.

2. Check Internal Temperature: For safety, check the internal temperature of the chicken wings. The USDA recommends that reheated chicken leftovers should have an internal temperature of 165°F.

3. Serve: Once the chicken wings are reheated, wait for a minute and then serve them. This short rest period helps the exterior to crisp up a bit more.

Tip- Remember, the exact cooking times may vary based on the thickness and size of the chicken wings and the specific model of your air fryer.

How long to cook frozen chicken wings in Air Fryer?

You can cook frozen chicken wings(raw and not cooked even once) for the same 12-15 minutes as suggested above at 180°C.

If you have already cooked chicken wings that were leftovers and then frozen, this only needs a bit of reheating. You probably have to cook it for 4-5 minutes at 180°C to warm it up.

You can reheat it longer, depending on how hot you want your chicken wings to be.

How to get super crispy Chicken wings in Air Fryer?

1. Dry Them Out: Pat the chicken wings with a dry paper towel before placing them in the air fryer. Less moisture means crispier skin.

2. Seasoning Trick: Dust the wings with a light baking powder or cornstarch coating before air frying. This helps to achieve a crispy texture.

3. Midway Shake: Flip the wings halfway through the cooking time. This ensures even cooking and crispiness on all sides.

4. Double Fry Method: For an extra crispy touch, air fry the wings initially, then let them cool for a few minutes before air frying again for a shorter time. It’s like giving them a double crisp treatment.

5. High Heat Blast: Increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) for the last few minutes of cooking to get that final crispy finish.

Remember, experimenting with these tips can help you find the perfect crispy wing technique that suits your taste preferences!

Deep fried vs. Air Fried Chicken wings

As you can see, when you deep fry frozen chicken wings, they lose much more nutritional value and add more fat than air-fried chicken wings.

This makes air-fried chicken wings a healthier option and hands down the best way to cook chicken wings.

Can you stack raw wings in the air fryer?

While you can stack raw wings in an air fryer and nothing significantly bad would happen, it’s generally not recommended for the best cooking results.

Stacking the wings can hinder the air circulation within the fryer, leading to uneven cooking.

Air fryers work by circulating hot air around the food, and stacking may block this airflow, resulting in some wings being undercooked while others are overcooked.

If you do not have a large air fryer and need to cook a significant amount of wings, it’s better to cook them in batches, ensuring they are arranged in a single layer for optimal cooking and crispiness.
