Easy fried eggs in air fryer

Fried eggs in air fryer are my favorite, and I’ll tell you why— they are just super easy to make. These fried eggs in an air fryer are easy, quick, delicious, and perfect for a breakfast meal on a busy morning.

Making eggs in the air fryer is a game changer. It is splatter-free, hands-free, and can be done while I’m busy prepping toast. Sometimes, I toast my bread and make my poached eggs together in the air fryer.

Air fryer is a great appliance to make breakfast; it makes everything much easier and healthier.

If you want to make the perfect fried egg, you only need an oven-safe utensil that fits in the air fryer—even a silicone basket would do. So, let’s start making an egg in an air fryer.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Eggs
  • Cooking oil or cooking spray

How to make Fried eggs in Air Fryer

1. Grease the Oven-Safe Tin: Grease an oven-safe tin or ramekin or spray some cooking oil to coat it so the fried egg comes off easily.

This prevents the egg from sticking to the tin during cooking.

Try using a thick oil like mustard oil or ghee, which would help form a nonstick layer. You can even layer the tin with parchment paper, grease it, and cook oil on it.

2. Crack the Egg: Crack an egg directly into the greased oven-safe tin.

3. Season (Optional): You can optionally season the egg with salt, pepper, or other desired spices. You can season the eggs later, too, after you are done cooking. I recommend adding herbs after cooking so they do not burn while cooking the fried egg.

4. Place in the Air Fryer: Carefully place the greased tin with the egg into the air fryer basket. Do not shake it too much, as that can cause the egg to move, breaking the yolk.

5. Cook the Egg: Cook the egg in an air fryer at 200°C (390°F) for 5-6 minutes. Adjust the cooking time based on how you like your egg yolk. Aim for around 5 minutes for a runny yolk, while a jammy yolk may take closer to 7 minutes, and a fully cooked yolk might be ready in 9 minutes.

6. Check for Doneness: Keep an eye on the egg after the 5-minute mark to ensure you get the kind of yolk you aim for.

Once the cooking time is up, check the egg to ensure it is cooked to your liking. The egg white should be set, and the yolk can be runny or fully cooked, depending on your preference.

7. Serve: Once the egg is cooked to your desired level, carefully remove the tin from the air fryer using oven mitts or tongs. Slide the fried egg onto a plate and serve.

Tips for cooking a fried egg in air fryer

1. Grease the Pan: To prevent the egg from sticking to the pan, make sure to grease it with cooking oil or cooking spray before cracking the egg into it. This will make it much easier to remove the fried egg once it’s cooked.

2. Monitor Cooking Time: Keep an eye on the egg, especially around the 5-minute mark, to ensure that the yolk is cooked to your desired level of doneness. Cooking times depend on the air fryer and personal preference, so adjust as needed.

3. Use an Oven-Safe Utensil: Ensure that you’re using an oven-safe utensil, such as a ramekin or tin, to cook the fried egg in the air fryer.

4. Cook Multiple Eggs: Depending on the size of your utensil and air fryer basket, you can cook multiple fried eggs at once. Just make sure there’s enough space between them for even cooking.

Equipment

  • 1 Philips Air fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Oil

Instructions

  • Prepare an oven-safe tin by greasing it with cooking oil to prevent the egg from sticking. Consider using thick oils like mustard oil or ghee for a nonstick layer. You can also use Parchment paper lining, but I haven't and prefer using mustard or sunflower oil.
  • Crack an egg directly into the greased tin. Make sure not to move it around much, as that can cause the egg to spread and thin out. It would move a bit, but do not move it around on purpose unless that is what you want.
  • Season the egg with salt, pepper, or desired spices. I recommend adding herbs after cooking to prevent burning, as the air fryer can get very hot while cooking eggs, or add them towards the end of the cooking session. You can even season the egg entirely after cooking.
  • Carefully position the greased tin with the egg in the air fryer basket to avoid breaking the yolk.
  • Air fry the egg at 200°C (390°F) for 5-6 minutes, adjusting time for preferred yolk consistency.
  • Monitor the egg from the 5-minute mark to achieve desired yolk consistency and ensure the egg white is set.
  • Once cooked to preference, remove the tin from the air fryer using oven mitts or tongs, slide the fried egg onto a plate, and serve.

Notes

  1.  Coat the pan with cooking oil or spray to prevent egg sticking and facilitate easy removal after cooking.
  2. Keep watch, especially around 5 minutes, to achieve desired yolk doneness. You can adjust the cooking time depending on the air fryer model and wattage.
  3. Ensure the utensil used, like a ramekin or tin, is oven-safe for air frying the egg.
  4.  Utilize space efficiently in the air fryer by cooking multiple eggs if the utensil and basket size allow, ensuring even spacing for consistent cooking.
